WhatsApp has stopped supporting millions of smartphones from 1 February 2020. In such a situation, smartphone users with older operating systems had time to buy a new smartphone by 31 January 2020. From 1 February 2020, WhatsApp will not work on smartphones with Android version 2.3.7 and iPhone with iOS 7. The company has said that its decision will not affect many users, because most users have a new phone. The company said in a statement that Android KitKat, ie version 4.0.3 or above, will be supported by WhatsApp, but smartphone users below that will not be able to use WhatsApp. Before that, the company has stopped support in Nokia Sambian S60 after 30 June 2017, BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 after 31 December 2017, Nokia S40 after 31 December 2018.
If you are also considering taking a plan of Life Insurance Corporation of India, ie LIC, then be careful. This is because LIC has stopped about two dozen plans after 31 January 2020. That is, these schemes of LIC have been stopped from 1 February 2020. At the end of November 2019, the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) asked life insurance companies to discontinue life insurance and riders that were not in line with the new product guidelines. Earlier, the last date for withdrawal of these products was given to these companies on 30 November 2019, which was extended till 31 January. Also, the last date for change or re-approval of existing life insurance policies is 29 February 2020.
The postal department had asked the savings account holders to update their mobile numbers and replace the existing magnetic ATM card with the new EMV chip based card by 31 January. A card with an EMV chip is more secure than a magnetic card. According to a notification by the Department of Posts, if not doing so, their card may get blocked. Customers of the postal department could go to their home branch and change the ATM card and update the mobile number. Postal Department provides savings bank account facility to its customers across the country. You get four per cent interest annually on the amount deposited in this account and this account can be opened by depositing a minimum of Rs 500.
