The largest and heaviest birds are now extinct who are capable to flight but following is a list of the heaviest and largest living bird specie, found in plains, mountains,riverside and forest. The small beautiful birds are always around in nature by making sweet sound. So the chances for thinking about heavy birds seems very little. But there are number of flying and non flying birds with noticeable massive body. Following are list of 10 largest living birds in the world, includes both flying and nonflying birds.
The ostrich is the first largest bird on earth. Ostrich cannot fly with their heavy wings but they can run at high speed using their legs. It lay the heaviest eggs weighing about 1.4kg.The bird were lawn all over the world for its feathers, which are decorative and are also used as feather dusters. Its skin is used for leather products and its meat is marketed commercially, with its leanness a common marketing point. They mainly consume seeds, shrubs, grass, fruit and flowers; occasionally they also eat insects such as locusts.
When the ostrich bird eating, they fill their gullet with food, which is in turn passed down their oesophagus in the form of a ball called a bolus.
Southern cassowary
This cassowary is the third largest flightless bird, singled wattled with black plumage.it is a shy and solitary bird. Their diet consists mainly of fruits and small animals. They make grunting and hissing sounds, like other cassowaries.
Emu
The emu is the 4th largest bird has soft-feathered, brown, flightless birds. Emus do not sleep continuously at night but in several short stints sitting down. The eggs are on average by 89 millimetres. Newly hatched chicks are active and can leave the nest within a few days of hatching. They stand about 12 centimetres tall at first.
