Hey guys what is up with you? Welcome back to 10 Best Lists today we are looking at some of the downright craziest animals that have been frozen in time!! Let’s get started.

First up we have the Yuka mammoth. Everyone knows about mammoths, and how they are some of the most recently extinct mammals. This is where the Yuka Mammoth comes in the picture, it lived around 39,000 years ago, amazing right! The most incredible thing however, is that its brain is almost completely intact, which is not the case with 99,99% of other animal fossils. This mammoth really Is one in a million! It allowed scientists to study the mammoth brain in detail – which in the end made them conclude that it was, in fact, very similar to the brains of today’s elephants. Which is good news – because it can help us bring the mammoths back! Min-blowing, right!

Next up we have frozen fish... These fish were left frozen perfectly in time, so perfectly they still looked alive! This phenomenon occurred when the lake levels were low due to a drought. The fish died due to depleted oxygen in the water. When it showed, it covered the fish and froze them. As the sun started to melt the show, what was left was perfectly frozen fish that look almost alive... They were discovered by a man named Ingolf Kristiansen in Norway when he was walking his dog. Not what you would expect to find on your daily dog walk!

Hidden away under frozen ground for nearly 10,000 years, an extremely well-preserved bison mummy is finally ready to give up its secrets. These scientists are working hard to discover it! Our next animal is the Yukagir Bison. In 2011, members of the Yukagir tribe in northern Siberia discovered the remains of a steppe bison, an extinct ancestor of the modern bison that still roam the plains of North America and northern Europe. Mind-blowing, right. The bison was almost perfectly preserved, amazingly, it was found with its internal organs almost completely intact. It seems that ice is the best preserver of animals doesn’t it, it even manages to keep the vital organs and brain intact, that’s amazing!

Our next animal is the Tumat Puppy. Its name is inspired by the location where it was found. The village of Tumat is located deep within the Sakha Republic, in Russia. We all know that Russia enjoys super cold winters and is covered with frost for most of the year! This puppy was found in 2015 and was related to a long line of extinct dog breeds, its relatives roamed the planet 12,00 years ago... crazy isn’t it. The puppy’s body was very well preserved and its brain perfect. Because of this, scientists hope to be able to bring back the species of dog using its DNA, what you can see is the initial autopsy of the puppy. It is just amazing what they can do!

The Selerikan pony was initially discovered, entirely by chance, thanks to gold-mining operations: a tunnel happened to coincide with the area of its burial, and its hindlegs protruded from the ceiling, that must’ve been a shock for the miners! Officials at the Siberian Academy of Sciences eventually found out about this discovery and were able to retrieve both the discarded legs and find the rest of the body among the dirt and gravel.
