10 Banned Candies That Can Kill
Who doesn’t love sweet stuff? Everyone needs a bit of sugar every once and a while. But it seems like some of us love sugar more than others do. Now, if you’ve been listening to your doctor’s advice, they’ll tell you that eating too many sweets can be bad for your health. And if you ask a dentist, they will definitely tell you to stop eating sweets right away if you don’t want cavities. But even when we know sweets can be bad, we still like to eat them. And I guess there’s nothing wrong with that unless you’re eating an illegal piece of candy! Yes. Believe it or not, there’s been plenty of candies that have been banned and today we’ll look at “10 Banned Candies That Can Kill.” Who knew that eating sweets could be so dangerous? Well, let’s find out what these candies are before it is too late.
Valentine’s Day Candy Hearts
A few years ago, Valentine’s Day came under attack in a school in Connecticut. Parents started receiving letters from the school authorities, saying that they would celebrate Valentine’s Day without candy or any other sugary foods. Some parents didn’t like this, but the school was making an effort to promote healthy eating. And some teachers even went as far as saying that the parents didn’t have to worry about snacks or other edibles because the teachers had it under control. So, I guess some kids ended up eating celery sticks and green juices instead of chocolate and candy bars? Many parents complained because after all, Valentine’s Day is just one day on the calendar and they don’t think there’s anything wrong with the children having candy on this day. The candies that grabbed everyone’s attention were those Valentine’s Day Candy Hearts that have little messages written on them. They’re so small and they’re the perfect gift for this day, but apparently, these are too sugary and I guess the school thought that children can get a disease by having a handful of these sweets on February 14. I wonder if they banned Halloween, too?
Sugar-Free Gummy Bears by Haribo
Everyone deserves the chance to have a gummy bear. And I’m sure most of you have had them at some point in your life. We owe their success to Haribo, the Germany-based confectionery company where they were created. Thanks to this invention, we now have other gummy candies such as octopuses, worms, hamburgers, apples, peaches, oranges, and other cool candies with the same texture. Some of these inventions have proven to be as good (or even better) than the original gummy bears, and some others have ended up being a complete failure. But none of them has been as bad as those sugar-free gummy bears that Haribo tried to put on the market. While anything sugar-free sounds like a healthy option, these gummy bears were considered a gift from hell. The problem was that instead of sugar, Haribo was using lycasin, which is as sweet as sugar, but it has half the calories. While this sounds good, lycasin can’t be fully digested by our bodies. As a result, the substance can ferment inside our stomachs and provoke a disgusting end result that I rather not talk about in this video. Haribo tried to warn people against eating these gummy bears in large quantities, but after so many reviews, these sugar-free treats had to be banned.
Milky Way
Alright, no one has banned the Milky Way yet, but you might want to go easy on them if you like to eat them a lot. These candy bars can cause a lot of damage to your body. They are made with hydrogenated palm kernel oil, which can be bad for your heart if you consume it in large amounts. And also, the production of this oil has been criticized for the damage it has done to the environment and the homes of many orangutans. Even those “fun-size” bars can be tricky. You might think you’re doing yourself a favor by having a smaller portion, but still, those small bars have 20 grams of sugar, when the regular size ones have only 10 more grams. I guess I can’t tell you not to eat them. After all, these bars are tasty. All I can say is...watch your portions ad stay healthy.
Hippy Sippy
When I think of the 60s, I think of hippies. And I’m sure you do, too. This is the decade in which this cultural movement became notorious while promoting its message of peace and love. But if you ask your grandparents or great-grandparents...or anyone who lived during those years, they’ll tell you that adults were not thrilled about everything that had to do with hippies. And that includes the infamous Hippy Sippy candy.
