Walt Disney once famously said that Disney Animation “all started with a Mouse.” Mickey Mouse, that is. And through his over 90 years of existence, Mickey sure has changed a lot. And he’s not the only Disney character who can boast some significant changes over time. While some of those changes are the result of the evolution of animation techniques that bring these characters to life, often they’re also because the characters’ personalities have evolved over two, three or even four movies. Take Woody, the cowboy doll we met almost 25 years ago in the original Toy Story. Who could have predicted where the loyal toy would end up in Toy Story 4 when he made his debut? And then there’s dark fairy, Maleficent, whose status as a villain required reconsideration after two movies focusing on her back story.
