10 Least Reliable Autos Based on Car Owners' Surveys and Predicted Dependability Ratings
Description
Any reliability ratings for the new car models are close to fortune telling on coffee grounds, but there will still be consumers willing to buy a brand-new auto and I feel obliged to make their decision more informed. Unlike the majority of dependability lists that rely only a single source of data, our educated predictions about the least reliable models of 2020 will be based on the cross-referenced ratings by both Consumer Reports and JD Power to exclude any biased views of the editors from these respected agencies.

#1 GMC Canyon
GMC is among the top 5 most unreliable brands according to 2020 reliability study by JD Power. Its compact Canyon truck also gets the “golden raspberry” of the automotive world, heading the Consumer Reports anti rating, alongside its Chevy Colorado sibling.
#2 2020 Alfa Romeo Giulia
The good ol’ Alfa Romeo is the usual victim of car memes referencing poor reliability and despite the recent 2020 upgrade, the Italian performance sedan is still expected by CS to give its owner some headache.
#3 Volkswagen Atlas
Unfortunately, according to CR, Volkswagen Atlas gets low reliability points from owners for the second year in a row, with problems ranging from climate control failures, leaks, noises to transmission issues.
#4 Jeep Wrangler
Italian ownership seems to undermine the dependability ratings of Jeeps these days, but the Jeep Wrangler occupies a rather peculiar spot on the consumer’s shopping list. Despite the widely known and expected reliability issues, this iconic SUV has the best resale value on the market.
#5 Tesla Model X
Remaining the only true production 3-row 7-seater SUV in the all-electric segment, the Model X still struggles getting into the recommended by Consumer Reports list, unlike its Model S and 3 singling. The major culprit in the dependability underperformance is those iconic falcon doors.
#6 Chrysler Pacifica
Chrysler Pacifica finishes at the bottom of CR reliability list, having 4 recalls, for battery, wiring, equipment and the rearview camera, while Chrysler is among the most problematic brands of 2020, according to JD Power.
#7 Land Rover Range Rover Velar
The mid-size Velar is the youngest model within Land Rover’s lineup and upon its introduction in 2017 it was promoted as the technological powerhouse and digital future in the luxury segment. Well, this high-tech dominance is one of the factors why drivers are forced to visit the auto shop so often.
#8 Fiat 500L
The 2020 500L minivan remains among the only 3 surviving Fiat models on the US market. The car’s lineup shrinks to just 3 trim levels, Pop, Trekking, and Lounge. On the durability front, the 500L does not have much to boast about, earning 29 points from CR, with owners complaining about stiff ride and jumpy pedal responsiveness.
#9 Volvo XC90
Volvo XC90 gets a noticeable refresh inside and out in 2020. Available in 3 trims, the XC90 gets 7 seats as standard, but depending on the chosen powertrain, the Momentum and Inscription models can be optioned with a 6-person layout. As per JD Power, the Chinese-owned Volvo has 180 problems reported per 100 vehicles, and the XC90 gets 18 out 100 reliability score from CR.
#10 Jaguar I-Pace
Sadly, Jaguars are becoming rather frequent members of the lower tier in terms of expected dependability. And it’s no surprise that their latest model Jaguar I-Pace with a brand new yet unrefined architecture, electric propulsion system and tech scores the lowest in this regard.
