10 Most Expensive Objects Found in the Trash
Hi there, everyone! Thanks for joining Mind Read for another cool video. We're exceptionally happy you're here with us right now. For this video, we're going to take a look at something super cool and it actually is kinda trashy, but the end result is more than you could possibly imagine. In fact, these stories show the 10 most expensive objects found in the trash, and we think you'll be quite impressed with some of these ones. So, without any further adieu, let's count down the top 10, and stay tuned for our best pick which features at the number 2 spot. Let's get ready to dive into the trash now, we can shower later, okay? Great! Let’s go!
Number 10: At our tenth spot we can tell you that the most expensive item found in the trash in this particular scenario was something really quite unusual. Steeped in culture and so unique, well the odds of this would be like a gazillion to one. So what is it you ask? Mayan artefacts, of course. Yes, so this man, Nick Dimola who was a waste disposal worker in the United States, well, he was asked to remove a barrel in 2004 while he was clearing other rubbish as part of his day to day job. Instead of throwing it away, he moved the barrel to a warehouse where he stored his own stuff, and here, he left it untouched for some years.
Finally, in the year 2009, he decided to clean up some more and get rid of the stuff he no longer required, but he decided to take a look inside the barrel before discarding it. And also to possibly break down the rubbish so it might take up less room when he was disposing of it. But when he looked inside, much to his surprise he found artefacts that were 2500 years old from the Mayan culture. At valuation they were said to be worth a very-cool 16500 US dollars. Wow, what an awesome find, Nick. We think this one’s really cool!
Number 9: At spot number 9 in the countdown, we have this footage of an otoe ball club. Interesting, right? Carved from a single piece of walnut and very gracefully formed with a slightly beveled handle and embellished with 178 square-shanked brass tacks. It's a crooked lance and a split linear element, perhaps with a representative of an otter or underwater panther which tops the crest of the club, with a length of 23.25 inches, circa 1840.
A Cincinnati garbage man found this one and was quite impressed as he fished it out from the trash. When he had the item valued it was sold at auction for a monumental 102,000 US dollars! Wow, that's so cool. The stunning Native American piece is said to be exceptionally rare and very beautiful to see in real life too. A piece of history that can't be easy to come by. And this takes our number 9 spot in the countdown for most expensive items found in the trash.
Number 8: At the eighth spot in our countdown, we can tell you that this find occurred when two Israeli men (working in the landfill) discovered these amazing historical pieces. In fact, the find was so rare that it shocked them both when they found out what they were. Can you guess? Well, it was some of the treasure of Caesarea. Along with ancient artefacts, they also found gold coins as well, and when looked at by experts, it turned out that the treasure was about 1600 years old.
The coins and brilliant statues which depicted the gods who were worshipped within the timeframe and cultural ideals are said to be priceless, so we're not sure just how much they got for them, but what a very rare and unique find. Recently, the Israel Antiquities Authority allowed archaeologists to spend time diving in the ancient harbor in the Caesarea National Park. They recovered beautiful artifacts and coins from a 1600-year-old shipwreck too. This was the largest assemblage of marine artifacts to be recovered in the past 30 years and the find was exceptionally rare.
Number 7: Spot 7 goes to this footage of Japanese money which is called yen. Except… this lot was shredded and found by a Japanese waste disposal employee who found it in 2012. In fact, the yen was so shredded it looked as though there might have been something fraudulent occurring, or perhaps a case of fake or printed, counterfeit money. But then, at closer inspection, the man noticed a bag with money intact, and not shredded like the other bags had been. And this did make him very curious. Had someone lost it? Or perhaps it belonged to somebody and they misplaced it. He couldn't really be sure.
The kindhearted man decided to contact police regarding his find, but they couldn't explain the case of the missing yen either. And the money was very real indeed, and not counterfeit at all, so it turns out. And because no one else came to claim it, and it wasn't reported as missing, he got to keep it! Can you guess how much he got to keep? A whopping 120,000 US dollars, in fact, and he was absolutely dumbfounded by the find, as you can well imagine.
