Family is one of the most important aspects of our lives. To an extent, it influences how we turn out later on in life. That’s why most families try to be as exemplary as possible by staying in line with accepted societal conventions of good and bad.
But for some, the situation is a bit different. They seem to follow their own set of rules which are different. And that is the focus of our video today. We will be taking a look at some of these unusual families around the world.

#10 the Manson Family
Most inmates would give up their lives just to get out of the dungeon. But it wasn't the case for Charles Mansion.
He had spent so much time in incarceration such that he couldn't figure out how to live as a free man. However, he got himself a life after he got out of prison and got himself a name as a musician.
He amassed a small group of followers comprising mostly young women by telling them what they wanted to hear – that they were a reincarnation of the pioneer Christians.
Using the young women, he lured several men, and his following grew to a sizable group and dubbed themselves as the Manson Family – a community of drug-abusing cult members that was fairly known in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
He demanded total submission from his followers who had now become family and would spend long hours listening to him preach about the past, present, and future of humanity. Surprisingly, he directed his family members to kill innocent people to hasten the culmination of his tainted dream about life.

John Joe Gray was a long time fugitive who evaded authorities for 15 years before charges against him were dropped.
Today, he lives secluded with his wife and a family of eight children in Trinidad, Texas. This has been his kind of hideout ever since he jumped bail back in 2000. He has kept his family captive since then threatening to shoot anyone who dares to attempt an arrest.
According to the 70-year-old, he and his family are prepared to deal with aggression no matter what it takes – even if it’s killing. Every member of the family is armed including the young kids and wouldn’t hesitate to use their weapons if need be.
As a result, the police haven’t bothered them for a very long time terming such an engagement as not worth it.
On their property, the family makes do without most inconveniences like phones, power or refrigeration. They grow their food like squash, beans, peppers, and potatoes in the fields. To contact the outside world, the family uses select frequent visitors known as supporters.
#8 Theresa Knorr and her Children
Your mother is the one person who is supposed to love you unconditionally, protect you from all dangers, both known and unknown. So, perishing and suffering at the hands of your mother is unfathomable.
Sadly that was not the case for Theresa Knorr.
Theresa Knorr burnt to death her 17 years old daughter and forced her two sons to take part in the heinous crime. Theresa believed that her daughter (the victim) had used magic to make her fat.
The following year she targeted her other daughter, a twenty-year-old, whom she locked up and starved to death.
Miss Knorr had a rather unstable mind, something that saw her marry and divorce within short periods. Her first marriage at the age of 16 ended two years later after she shot the husband.
She got married three more times, each marriage ending up in divorce. With each divorce, she became more unstable and when she left her fourth marriage, she started drinking heavily and was easily irritable.
But thank graces, she was later charged for all the horrors she inflicted on her children. She’s now two life sentences – and hopefully making peace with herself too.
#7 Colt Clan (Incest Family)
Incest is frowned upon in most cultures around the globe. Even science disagrees with the whole idea of in-breeding. It can be a source of numerous birth defects. That’s what befell the Colt Clan, an Australian family of inbreds.
According to media reports, the family started with a brother and a sister who saw it fit to have intercourse with each other which ultimately led to kids. This went on for at least four generations with the family's population growing solely due to incest.
And looking at these siblings, it was clear that they picked up some defective genes. Most of them were weak, suffered deformities and had problems talking coherently.
As if that's not enough already, this family lived in deplorable conditions, unacceptable to any human being. They lived in a shack with no running water or electricity, and on top of that, they slept near a bucket full of urine and feces!
