10 Giant People
People have long since thought that a rave of giants once walked this earth. The recent discovery of the
city of giants, check out our video on that if you haven’t seen it yet, makes it the perfect time to talk
about the real life giants that lived during our lifetime. Number one is currently the tallest man in the
world so stay tuned to find out who he is as we bring you 10 giant people.
Number 10. Dharmendra Pratap Singh
Standing at just under eight feet and one inch, Dharmendra Pratap Singh is currently the tallest man in
India. Because of his height, he is quite famous in his home country, but despite that fame, and even a
Master’s Degree, he doesn’t seem to be happy with his lot and is currently struggling to make a living.
Employers won’t hire him because he is too tall and all of them wonder how he is going to work. So,
desperate to get a job, he accepted a job at a freakshow where he earns an average of 10,000 rupees a
month. Yet, his problems don’t end there.
Like most people his height, he has a tumor in his pituitary gland that makes it uncontrollably secrete
growth hormones. This condition gave him his incredible height, but it also came with other medical
problems. He has poor eyesight and often suffers from headaches. He also has diabetes. And just
recently, it was discovered that his hips need to be replaced. Also, living in poverty means that he’s not
getting all the nutrition he needs. He is greatly malnourished and despite his height, he only weighs 70
kilograms.
It’s sad to see such an amazing person suffer so much. Here’s to hoping he has better days ahead of him.
Number 9. Sandy Allen
Sandy Allen was the first ever woman to be recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the
tallest woman in the world. She stood 6 feet 3 inches tall by the age of 10 and was 7 feet 1 inch by 16.
Her record has long been broken, but nothing can take away her stature as “the first”. By the time she
died, she measured 7 feet 7 and a quarter inches.
Like most of the tall people on this list, she was born a normal sized baby, but she grew way faster than
her peers. As mentioned, she was 6 foot 3 by the time she was in 5 th grade, leading some of her
classmates to tease her about her height.
It wasn’t all that bad though. Her incredible height even managed to land her a role in the movie Fellini’s
Casanova where she played the role of “Giantess” and she starred opposite Donald Sutherland. The
producers flew her to Italy and she stayed there for 6 weeks, catching as much of the sights as she can.
It was only after her stint in Europe did she find out the cause of her uncontrolled growth, and it was
also the first time she heard the word “Acromegaly”, which is a rare condition caused by an excess of
growth hormones.
Number 8. Bao Xishun
Xishun Bao is a herdsman from Chifeng, Inner Mongolia, China, and briefly held the world record for
being the world’s tallest man.
Quite unlike most of the people on our list, his growth spurt came a bit late. He was already 16 when he
experienced a growth spurt that didn’t seem to stop. He then served in the People's Liberation Army for
three years. He later returned to Inner Mongolia to live with his mother and worked at the Chifeng City
local hospital for several months.
Xishun Bao married saleswoman Xia Shujuan on March 24, 2007, and now has a son. Being one of the
tallest men on earth does have its perks though, as Bao has appeared in quite a few TV shows most
notably on the eleventh episode of The Amazing Race 16 as the pitstop greeter. Which aired on May 2,
2010.
Number 7. Olivier Richters
Tall people, especially those suffering from acromegaly, often have other health problems linked to their
condition, often making them frail and sickly, but not this next guy on our list. Standing at a mind-
boggling 7 feet 2 inches, Olivier Richters is a true living giant.
Coming from Hilversum in North Holland, Richters earned his nickname as “the Dutch Giant” with good
reason. Richters destiny as a bodybuilder wasn’t always so clear. He was born with a concave chest and
describes his younger self as quite thin.
Richters first started out in athletics playing basketball before decided that the sport wasn’t for him and
switched over to bodybuilding. He fell in love with it immediately and never looked back. Quickly the
Dutch Giant started making waves, not just for his height, but also his amazing physique. Currently, he’s
the tallest bodybuilder to win a Men’s Physique competition and we don’t think anyone’s going to break
that record anytime soon.
