The Simpsons is the longest-running animated sitcom in history. Because of that, and the nature of the show, there has been a slew of pop culture references sprinkled throughout the many seasons. One such connection the show has established is a long-running joy of parodying and referencing the Marvel superheroes.
There is a lot of love for Spider-Man to be found in The Simpsons. Perhaps one of our favorites was the inclusion of J.K. Simmons reprising his role as J. Jonah Jameson from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies. We also see Spider-Man show up at Nelson’s birthday party and get to hear a Malibu Stacy doll speak with a Spidey voice box, a nod to real-world G.I. Joe and Barbie dolls. Homer himself eats a copy of Spider-Man #1. The shame, the tragedy!
There are also a few nods to the Fantastic Four, including an on the nose spot in the Halloween special and seeing Stan Lee himself combine a batmobile toy with The Thing. It doesn’t go well for the batmobile.
Stan Lee also tries to turn into the Hulk after Homer gets green paint all over him, causing him to unleash his rage. The Hulk was also a wedding gift for Skinner and Edna in the form of a melon baller from Comic Book Guy. Ben Stiller and Jack Black end up taking on the roles of Iron Man and The Hulk at the Oscars. You can see all of these moments again in Disney Plus as the series has a home there now!
