- Caleb Bradham was a pharmacist who owned a drugstore with a soda fountain in New Bern, North Carolina. In 1893 he came up with a carbonated beverage flavored with Kola nuts, lemon oil and nutmeg that he hoped would help with some of his customers' digestive problems.
