10 Year Old Drummer Faces off against Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl
Description
It's Papua New Guinea's Independence Day, a day which marks its independence from Australia. The day is usually reserved for festivals and fireworks, but like a lot of things, this year is going to look a little different.
On this day in 1975, Papua New Guinea officially became its own country, before then, this region had been controlled by many nations, including Australia! Every year since the country has celebrated with massive parades, singing, dancing, you know, the usual stuff.
But this year is a bit different. In fact, due to COVID-19, the school has had to change a fair bit. While this year’s independence day didn't quite go to plan, hopefully, next year these kids and the whole country will be out celebrating once again.
ANTI-ASTEROID CRAFT
NASA and the European Space Agency are teaming up to save the earth from being wiped out by a massive asteroid. Important disclaimer, there's no risk of that actually happening at the moment, but it pays to be prepared. The 210 million dollar project will see the two space agencies launch a craft on a collision course with an asteroid to see if it is hypothetically possible to nudge a big, deadly space rock out the way of our planet.
EPIC DRUMMER GIRL
It's hard to find anyone who loves drumming more than Nandi, except for maybe Dave Grohl. He was the drummer for a rock band called Nirvana, and the frontman of the Foo Fighters, and last month Nandi laid down a pretty epic challenge to him. Much to her surprise, he accepted! After smashing the song, he then replied with his own challenge to Nandi, and after a quick happy dance, the battle was on.
After less than a week of practice, Nandi absolutely nailed the battle, but Dave had something else up his sleeve. Much to her surprise, he'd written a new song just for her! Nandi was understandably pretty shocked by it all, and says she's going to learn all the parts to the new track to cover it herself after she's calmed down a bit of course.
MONKEY SELFIE
Need a bunch of selfies from a wild animal? A monkey apparently swiped a phone from a Malaysian student's bedroom while he slept, and promptly tried to eat it. Oh, and took lots of high-quality selfies and videos for good measure. But, all's well that ends well, it turned up in the jungle behind his house the next day, a little worse for wear.
DUCK EXODUS
At the end of every rice season, farmers in Thailand employ the help of thousands upon thousands of ducks! The ducks eat away at pests, like small snails, as well as any leftover rice husks. Whatever the job calls for, they're all over it. After about a week of feasting, it's time to head home. All aboard the duck truck.
BIG CANVAS ART
And finally, meet the man who is literally all over his own artwork! Artist Sacha Jafari is working on what he hopes to be the world's largest canvas painting. He's titled it "Journey of Humanity', and says lockdown has really helped him get a leg up on it all. Just how big is it? Well, too big to hang up in your house, unless you have a wall that's about the size of 4 basketball courts.
