11 Players Available on a FREE Transfer in the summer | Free Agent XI. Statman Dave puts a team together of an XI of players who could be free agents this summer with their contracts set to expire at the end of the season.

There’s some big names available to move for free in the summer transfer window. Names like David Silva, Chrsitian Eriksen, Dries Mertens and Luka Modric, so we could expect moves to some of the top European leagues and even some to the MLS. Let’s start from the back, in goal we have Alexander Nubel. The highly-rated German stopper is out of contract in the summer and was widely expected expected to join Bayern Munich, although Bayern’s willingness to guarantee Manuel Neuer that he’ll continue to be their number one has seemingly stalled any deal.

In central defence we’re going for Jan Vertonghen and Thiago Silva. The Spurs veteran has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League since he joined from Ajax in 2012 and at 32 isn’t exactly old for a central defender.Thiago Silva is a lot older at 35 but is also one of the most decorated players in the modern game: he’s won six Ligue 1 titles as well as the Serie A with AC Milan. At right-back we have PSG’s Thomas Meunier. The Belgian is by far the youngest of our backline at just twenty eight years old and could represent a decent medium-term option for most Champions League clubs. At left back we have Man United captain, Ashley Young.

Young is capable of playing on either flank and in defence or attack and so would offer cover in various positions and would represent a solid piece of business. An MLS move wouldn’t be a surprise for some like Ashley Young.
In midfield we’ve got 2018 World cup winner Blaise Matuidi. Matuidi is part of a bloated crop of central midfielders currently at Juventus - with the likes of Miralem Pjanic, Rodrigo Bentancur, Emre Can and Adrien Rabiot all vying for a starting spot. Fernandinho will partner him in our team, we’re going for two industrias defensive midfielders in Blaise Matuidi and Fernandinho. Fernandinho was one of the best defensive midfielders in the world last season: winning possession for his side 162 times and passing into the final third 317 times in the Premier League campaign. Man City’s drop off when the Brazilian hasn’t been present in the centre of the park serves to highlight just how important he still is and it’s hard to think of many teams in Europe that wouldn’t improve massively by bringing in the former Shakhtar man.

Moving into the attacking line we have Ryan Fraser, David Silva, Christian Eriksen and PSG’s Edinson Cavani as the striker. Ryan Fraser was unbelievable last season, registering more league assists than Lionel Messi (14-13) with the second best assist tally across Europe’s top five leagues. Leading the line for us is Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan hitman is PSG’s all-time top scorer in the Champions League and is undoubtedly a natural finisher. Cavani has an excellent ability to find high-quality shot locations and at his best is an absolute shot-monster - taking 4.6 shots per game in his final season at Napoli.
