"A once in a lifetime opportunity...probably" | First descents in China
Description
A few months ago Nick got contacted by someone we had worked with on previous trips to China about potentially coming back for another project. Though the trips we had been on before were mainly competitions on the Salween river, this one was different. He mentioned that there was a video series being done in China, and one of the sports they wanted to do was kayaking, and the "challenge" they wanted kayakers to do were the Detain waterfalls. There was no way Nick was turning down the chance to go and run the Detain waterfall as it is basically the Niagara of China, as in it's on the border of Vietnam and China. We had seen plenty of photos and it was something we always wanted to run, but getting permission we also felt was going to be near impossible. Though somehow they managed to pull it together for kayakers to have permission, and once Nick was in he invited me to come along. Though it was only a 5 day trip, there was plenty of scouting, exploring, and of course, falling.
