Academia never had to change: now it’s dire | Tyler Dewitt | TEDxMIT
Description
My father wanted me to become a professor. Instead, as I forged a different path, teaching on YouTube, developing Virtual Reality, and working outside of higher education, it became clear that his beloved academia is headed for major disruption. Tyler DeWitt works at the intersection of science, technology, and education. He is the creator of one of the most popular instructional channels on YouTube and is the video author for the newly-released textbook “Interactive General Chemistry,” published by Macmillan Learning. Tyler is a frequent speaker and consultant on technology and the future of education. Tyler is currently the Executive Director of Innovation at Quality Executive Partners, where he works to bring VR and other learning technologies to the life sciences and pharmaceutical sectors. Tyler holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology from MIT. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
