For more than two years now, a firefighting team spends eight hours daily at Ahmedabad Collector’s office in a ritualistic manner — a firefighter, two to three firemen, a fire-fighter vehicle driver and a jamadar reach the office sharp at 10 am and leave at 6 pm after office hours. An incident in Patan, where a person immolated himself at the collector’s office, was the reason the Ahmedabad Collector decided to have a fire team stationed there.
