Badruddin Ajmal, who has made his place in the politics of Assam, was rarely heard in the state before 2004. Before that he himself did not come directly into politics and used to play the game of King Maker with the help of Jamiat's strength. Ajmal is very popular among these Muslims due to their religious and social activities. People see him as an Islamic guru along with a politician. The opposition has always accused Badruddin of polarizing Bengali Muslims through speeches.

Badruddin formed a separate political party in 2005 after some differences with the former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi. Won 10 seats in the 2006 assembly election. Badruddin himself, in that election, won by a large margin in two constituencies. After this, in 2009, he entered the Parliament by winning the election of Lok Sabha MP from Dhubri and since then he has been an MP three consecutive times. It has been more than 15 years since Badruddin entered politics, but his party politics remained around Bengali Muslims for so many years.
