Best of 2020: Top 10 IMDb Indian Web Series


1. SCAM 1992: THE HARSHAD MEHTA STORY

#Scam1992 topped the list this year. Set in 1980’s in Mumbai, the biographical drama thriller revolves around the life of a stock broker Harshad Mehta. Ever since its release, the show has been a huge hit among the audiences. The cast of the show were also praised for their performances. The story of the show is adapted from Sucheta Dalal and Debashish Basu’s book The Scam: Who Won, Who Lost, Who Got Away. The series stars Pratik Gandhi, Sharib Hashmi, Shreya Dhanwanthary, Hemant Kher and Nikhil Dwivedi in prominent roles.


2. #PANCHAYAT

Amazon Prime Video’s Panchayat was the second rated web series. The comedy drama chronicles the life of an engineering graduate who joins as a Panchayat secretary in a remote village of Uttar Pradesh due to lack of better job opportunities. The series stars Jitendra Kumar, Raghubir Yadav, Neena Gupta, and Biswapati Sarkar.

3. #SPECIALOPS

Special Ops ranked third. The spy thriller marked the digital debut of filmmaker Neeraj Pandey. The eight-episode series was about a man named Himmat Singh from the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) who is convinced that a single person is behind all the attacks. He has five agents under him living in various parts of the world. They all plan and plot to catch the mastermind behind the attacks. Kay Kay Menon plays the lead role.


4. BANDISH BANDITS

The 10-part musical drama #BandishBandits ranked fourth on the list. It revolves around a classical music student named Radhe and a pop sensation named Tamanna. They duo come from two very different worlds of music and yet they venture together on a journey of self-discovery. The series shows how the mixture of classical and pop music fall in love with each other. It stars Ritwik Bhowmick and Shreya Chaudhary in lead roles.


5. #MIRZAPUR2

The hugely popular second season of Mirzapur landed on the fifth position. The lives of Guddu (Ali Fazal) and Golu (Shweta Tripathi) took a dark turn in the last episode of the first season. Season 2 of Mirzapur is all about revenge and ended at a cliffhanger, making fans looking forward to the third season already. The show introduced a group of new actors this season with Priyanshu Painyuli and Isha Talwar playing key roles in the show.

6. #ASUR: WELCOME TO YOUR DARK SIDE

Voot Select’s thriller Asur: Welcome to Your Dark Side, featuring Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti, stood at the sixth position. The series is set in current times and revolves around serial killings. The web series is set at the backdrop of Varanasi. The story revolves around a forensic-expert-turned-teacher Nikhil Nair. He returns to the CBI to catch a brutal serial killer. The web series is filled with suspense and gory murders.


7. #PAATALLOK

Anushka Sharma backed Paatal Lok emerged seventh on the list. The Amazon series featured Jaideep Ahlawat in the lead role playing the character of Hathiram Chaudhary, a Delhi Police cop. He is given the case of a lifetime when four suspects are nabbed in the assassination attempt of a journalist. The gritty crime thriller also starred Neeraj Kabi, Abhishek Banerjee and Gul Panag in the lead roles. From the plight of journalism to the politics of the country, everything is shown in the series.

8. #HIGH

Akshay Oberoi starrer MX Player series High ranked eighth on the list. Akshay played the role of a drug addict struggling to get a grip on life. He eventually finds himself in a rehab facility that is being run in a mysterious compound. The series also stars Shweta Basu Prasad, Ranvir Shorey, Prakash Belawadi and Nakul Bhalla.



9. ABHAY 2

Kunal Kemmu’s Zee 5 Original #Abhay2 is 9th on the list. The first season of Abhay dealt with horrific crime stories and was appreciated by the viewers. Kunal plays the role of #Abhay in the second season. He is a part of the STF team and understands a criminal’s mindset. The crime thriller has been directed by Ken Ghosh and produced by BP Singh's Firefly Productions. The star cast includes Kunal Kemmu, Sandeepa Dhar, Elnaaz Norouzi and Deepak Tijori.

10. AARYA

Sushmita Sen made her digital debut with the crime drama Aarya this year. She plays the titular role in the Hotstar Original web series, in which she runs her husband’s drug empire after a personal tragedy. #Aarya also stars Ankur Bhatia, Chandrachur Singh, Sikandar Kher and Namit Das among others. The show ends on an intriguing note, making fans eager for the second season already.
