Briton runs marathon in living room during quarantine
Description
Peter Cooper has run a marathon in his living room, which measures just eight metres (26 feet), raising thousands of pounds for charity.
The 28 year old, originally from Okehampton in Devon, was placed in quarantine for two weeks in his Hong Kong flat after a visit to the UK.
He ran 5,250 laps of his living room in under five hours for Cardiomyopathy UK, the national heart muscle charity, and the mental health charity Mind.
In less than 24 hours, supporters pledged over £4,000 to the two charities.
Peter ran the marathon in memory of his mother Marilyn, who died of a heart attack in 2016, shortly after running a half-marathon.
“I have struggled over the last two years since the passing of my mother Marilyn,” said Peter.
“She was a keen runner and triathlete, who was hoping to complete all six major marathons, before sadly passing away unexpectedly.”
Joel Rose, chief executive of Cardiomyopathy UK, said: “Peter’s support means more people affected by cardiomyopathy can get the support and information they need.”
Peter has previously run the New York, London and Chicago marathons – as well as an Iron Man – and hopes to run the Tokyo marathon next year.
He is in quarantine with his wife Amy who cheered him on and provided him with fluids from the sofa.
