Carp fishing - Marker rod: How to set up and use (step by step)

Using a marker rod is essential for feature finding. Here’s the ultimate guide to help you find the best spots to fish.

In the first part of the video, you can see how to set up your marker rod step by step: what rod to use, what reel, what line. You must use braid because you want a line without any stretch and then use a mono leader to avoid tangles. To attach the braid to the mono, I show you how to tie the mahin knot.

For the marker float, I use the Fox run rig kit to attach the float to a distance lead, using the blood knot.

In the second part of this video, I show you exactly how to use your marker rod setup for feature finding. I’m going to make several casts to show you how to determine the size of a spot, and to see whether it’s a firm clean gravel spot, firm silt or an area that’s soft, thicker silt that you want to avoid.
