Anti-government protests continued in the capital city of Chile on Friday, with barricades set on fire and smoke filling the streets.

People were also seen dancing, with a music band performing in front of the protesters.

The recent protest came after the UN issued a report stating that human rights norms have been violated by the security forces, documenting "113 specific cases of torture and ill-treatment, and 24 cases of sexual violence against women, men and adolescent girls and boys," according to the report.

The report also mentioned "the alarmingly high number of persons with injuries to their eyes or faces (approximately 350)" as well as "4,903 people injured up to 10 December, including 2,792 police officers," suggesting that numbers of injured could be higher.

The protests were triggered by a now-withdrawn increase in subway fares. Social discontent has been fuelled by frustration with President Sebastian Pinera's policies and growing inequality.
