Description

FIDE Candidates chess tournament. The opening is an English where Ding Liren maintains a slight edge for nearly 30 moves. After a critical pawn break on move 30, the pawn structure and minor piece struggle become a focal point, and a reassessment must be made. Ding Liren is China’s #1 player, and Wang Hao is China’s #2 player. The 2020 FIDE Candidates chess tournament consists of 8 players competing for 14 rounds. The players are Fabiano Caruana, Ding Liren, Wang Hao, Alexander Grischuk, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Anish Giri, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, and Kirill Alekseenko. The winner of the event will, later this year, challenge the reigning World Chess Champion, Magnus Carlsen, for the World Chess Championship title.
