Recognizing his invaluable and outstanding contribution in the field of science and technology, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte bestowed the Order of National Scientists on Dr. Emil Javier in a ceremony at the President’s Hall in Malacañan Palace.
In his keynote address, the President conveyed his deepest gratitude and admiration for Dr. Javier’s footnote in the scientific community, particularly in tropical agricultural research and crop production leading to many applications in agronomy, plant breeding, seed production, and management of tropical grasses and legumes, among others.
“Dr. Javier, your dedication to advance the frontiers of science and knowledge for the common good has played a significant role in alleviating poverty. Your leadership at the Institute of Plant Breeding advanced the production of high-yielding crops and disease-resistant varieties in the Philippines and in Asia, paving the way to better nourishment and an improved quality of life for our people,” President Duterte said.
The Chief Executive also recognized the efforts taken by Dr. Javier as he helped improve and promote sound agricultural policies and programs in the country, as well as increased the productivity of Filipino farmers and fisherfolks through improved governance and management systems.
“It is my hope that his success will encourage more Filipino scientists across the nation to carry on with their work and help achieve a sustainable and inclusive future for every Filipino,” the President ended.
Dr. Javier is the 42nd to be named National Scientist, the highest honor that the Philippine government can confer to a Filipino with outstanding achievements in science and technology.
Fellow National Scientists Dr. Dolores Ramirez, Dr. Ricardo Lantikan and Dr. Angel Alcala also witnessed the conferment of the award.
