Coronavirus Lockdown: The government of India has increased the excise duty on petrol and diesel prices. In the change made on the night of May 5, the excise duty on petrol and diesel has been increased at the rate of eight rupees per liter. Apart from this, special additional duty has also been increased on petrol of two rupees per liter and diesel on rupees five per liter. In this way, the price of petrol has increased by 10 rupees and the price of diesel by 13 rupees. With this, India has become the highest tax-paying country on fuel. In India, 69 percent of the total tax is being levied on petrol and diesel.
The government has decided to raise excise duty levels on petrol and diesel by historic high levels. This has taken up tax components on the retail price of auto fuels closer to the 70 percent level. Watch the video for details.
