Correcting the Myths of Environmental Alarmism & Progress | Marian Tupy | ENVIRONMENT | Rubin Report

Dave Rubin of The Rubin Report talks to Marian Tupy (editor, Humanprogress.org) to get a good dose of optimism and to discuss the ignored story of global poverty reduction, debunk the myths of the US’s rising CO2 emissions, and what environmental activists like Extinction Rebellion get so wrong about climate change. Marian shares mind blowing statistics and the story of progress that no media outlet will cover, that the planet is creating more wealth than ever before. All long term indicators show that economic growth is decreasing the amount of poor people on Earth and improving the quality of life for millions and millions of people and reducing extreme poverty around the globe . It is only when the media doesn’t distinguish between needs and wants that it is able to create the impression that economic globalization is increasing poverty. We are even seeing declines in poverty in India and China. Marian credits international trade, multinational corporations along with the collapse of Socialism and Communism around the world for the success of combating global poverty. Marian shares how the US has fought climate change and reduced CO2 levels without having a green new deal or even joining the Paris agreement. The reduced carbon dioxide emissions and pollution don’t come from environmental protection or global warming reduction policies, but instead from simple innovation. The US has achieved this success by switching over to using more natural gas and using significantly less coal. Falling commodity prices have also helped natural gas, which is a much cleaner fuel, take a larger role in US energy production. Marian also debunks another popular myth, that overpopulation is a growing problem. The opposite is actually true since we are seeing a major population decline. As countries get richer they tend to have declining population growth. Marian also confronts the arguments of climate change alarmists like Greta Thunberg, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and apocalypse fearing organizations like Extinction Rebellion who fear a world where we lose many lives to climate change caused natural disasters. What they overlook is that fatalities from disasters like tsunamis, hurricanes, and earthquakes has declined by 99% over the last 100 years. Contrary to their doomer worldview the world is getting much safer as we see less major wars like the World Wars of the 20th century. There has been a brief uptick in civil wars, but even these are in long term decline. Marian also remarks on how stockpiles of nuclear weapons have also seen a long term decline.
