CSFI Economic Outlook: Andrew Hilton's take on the global economy
Why you should watch: Don't buck the bond market - it is telling us something, even if we don't want to hear. The big issue on both sides of the Atlantic is whether inflation is about to take off - and, if so, whether we should risk inflaming it by continuing with big fiscal programmes and unprecedented monetary accommodation. The situation is a bit different in the US (where one can make the case that hawks have the better of the argument) and Europe (where the economy is probably still more fragile), but this is the big debate - and it is unclear which way it will turn out. Other than that, no real surprise that Biden's commitment to multilateralism is quickly coming into conflict with his pledge to 'put America first'. Guess which is going to win...
In his Weekly Economic Outlook, Andrew Hilton, the CSFI’s Director, discusses the current crisis, its impact on the global economy, and what we may be missing.
Andrew is a former World Bank economist, who also ran a small economic consultancy advising international clients, particularly in the Middle East. He has an MA from New College, Oxford, an MBA from Wharton, and an MA and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a Thouron Scholar and Kent Fellow.
