DAD BECOMES A BODYBUILDER!!! Episode 1 - How Fat Am I? Dexa Scan, RMR, and VO2Max Fitness Test!

2020 is the year I will be making my comeback to competitive bodybuilding. The last time I competed was when I was 19. Now, more than 20 years later, I plan to return to the sport, competing in the Masters Division ( Age 40+). After 20-something years of not dieting, I thought it would be good to get a starting point to see where I as at in terms of body composition, metabolism, and fitness level. I took MT to DexaFit, to get a Dexa Scan, RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) and VO2 Max tests. The results were eye opening. Looking forward to improving in all these areas and to hit the stage looking and feeling good!

What is a DEXA scan?
A DEXA scan is a non-invasive test that measures bone mineral density to assess if a person is at risk of osteoporosis or fracture. DEXA stands for dual energy x-ray absorptiometry—a mouthful of a term that actually tells a lot about this procedure, in which two X-ray beams are aimed at the bones.

RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) Test:
The RMR test is a simple, non-invasive test that accurately measures how many calories you burn at rest. During the test, a machine captures and analyzes the composition of your breath, determining your oxygen consumption, to measure the rate at which you consume energy.

VO2Max Test:
VO2 max, or maximal oxygen consumption, refers to the maximum amount of oxygen that an individual can utilize during intense or maximal exercise. This measurement is generally considered the best indicator of cardiovascular fitness and aerobic endurance. The more oxygen a person can use during high level exercise, the more energy a person can produce. This test is the gold standard for determining cardiorespiratory fitness because the muscles need oxygen for prolonged aerobic exercise, and the heart must pump adequate amounts of blood through the circulation to meet the demands of aerobic exercise.
