Seattle’s City Council held an emergency meeting Thursday to discuss preparations for a spread of COVID-19 cases. Mayor Jenny Durkan announced that the City will add 100 shelter beds to three facilities, which should be operational in 2-3 weeks.

Then, The death toll from COVID-19 jumped to 11 on Thursday with news that the passing of a 90-year-old woman was also linked to coronavirus. The update came a few hours after Gov. Jay Inslee said a state emergency declaration he issued will compel insurers to waive testing costs for those without their own private health care insurance.

Also, All of the schools in the Northshore School District will be closed for up to two weeks to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and protect vulnerable staff members, the district's superintendent said Wednesday evening in a letter to parents.
