Description

Today I'm sharing a simple and super versatile recipe from my good friend Kareem--Dirty Snowballs! All you need is a package of Oreos (SO many flavors to choose from!), a brick of cream cheese, and some melted chocolate for dipping. The sky is the limit with decorating these cute little candies, too. Dirty Snowballs are the perfect Christmas treat!

Dirty Snowballs (aka Oreo Cookie Truffles)--full recipe
36 Oreo cookies (any flavor you'd like to experiment with!)
1 brick cream cheese, room temperature
10-12 oz. white or dark almond bark or melting wafers
sprinkles, cookie crumbs, crushed candy canes, melted chocolate, etc. for decorating (optional)

Place the cookies, filling and all, into a food processor. Grind into fine crumbs. Dump the crumbs into a large mixing bowl with the softened cream cheese. Use an electric hand mixer to combine until smooth and evenly incorporated. Line a baking tray with parchment paper (or a silicone baking mat). Use a small cookie scoop to evenly portion out the Oreo cookie balls. Freeze for 10-15 minutes or until firm.
In a microwave safe bowl, melt your desired almond bark or chocolate wafers in 30 second increments, stirring in between, until completely melted. Use a fork to dip each candy into the chocolate and coat completely. Tap the handle of the fork on the side of the bowl so the chocolate "sheets" over top (it will create a smooth coating). Use a toothpick to help you slide the candy back onto the parchment paper. Decorate the top with sprinkles or any other garnish you choose while the chocolate is still wet. Continue coating and decorating all of the candies. If you need to, pop them back into the freezer to stay firm before coating. If they are too warm, they will start to fall apart when you dip them. Also, if you are going to drizzle any leftover melted chocolate over top as a decoration, make sure the candy's coating has solidified first.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. ENJOY!!
