Donald Trump dismisses warnings Russia will use medical supplies sent to NY as Kremlin propaganda
Description
US President Donald Trump brushed aside warnings that Vladimir Putin would use the 60 tons of medical supplies Russia sent to New York as Kremlin propaganda, calling it a 'nice gesture.'
'If they send things we need, I'll take it. Nice gesture. I'm not concerned about Russian propaganda. He offered a lot of high quality stuff that I accepted. That may save a lot of lives. I'll take it every day,' he said at Thursday's White House briefing.
'It was a nice offer from President Putin,' he noted. 'And I could have said no thank you or thank you. And it was a large plane of very high quality medical supplies and I said I'll take it.'
Putin offered the medical assistance when the two world leaders spoke on the phone on Monday.
The supplies landed at John F. Kennedy airport in New York on Wednesday and were criticized on both sides of the Atlantic. American officials questioned Putin's motives in making the offer and Russian health officials described their own needs for such equipment.
The cargo plane carried 60 tons of ventilators, masks, respirators and protective equipment at a time when the United States is struggling to meet the demands of health care workers who are on the frontline.
