Expert Nutritional Advice From Dietitian Tracy Lockwood Beckerman on COVID-19!
Description
Overeating in isolation? Not sure what snacks are safe during quarantine? Tracy Lockwood Beckerman, a leading women's health expert and nationally-recognized registered dietitian, came by Betches (virtual) HQ to discuss all things Coronavirus with us. COVID-19 is scary AF and our DMs have been filled with tons of questions about nutrition during quarantine. Tracy breaks it all down for us!
Tracy starts off by giving us tips on which non-perishable/long shelf life foods we should be stocking up on during quarantine. The list includes eggs, beans, canned, frozen, fresh or dried fruits and vegetables as well as pasta and quinoa.
When asked about snacking too much she tells us, “Right now there are no rules. If you're hungry, go for a snack," but she recommends picking snacks with whole ingredients like fresh fruit, popcorn, and nuts.
Feel like you’re eating too much at home? Tracy says that, “This is not the time to put yourself in a calorie deficit to lose weight.” She explains that if you do catch COVID-19 you do not want to be malnourished. You want to keep your immune system strong.
If you do have COVID-19 Tracy personally doesn’t care what you eat. She prefers you eat enough nutrients in any form. If you are running a fever — coconut water and watermelon water will help with hydration.
Drinking more in isolation? Tracy tells us that, “The CDC recommends 1 drink for us ladies and 2 drinks for men.” She tells us to try to occupy our time with other things like making pasta from scratch!
Tracy leaves us with 3 major tips: make sure you’re eating a balanced diet, managing proper sleep hygiene and practicing things that will lower your stress.
