Description

I have no knowledge about filming and filter efficiency.
So gathered following information;
A) X8 gimbal uses small motors so need to use very light weight filter to avoid gimbal stalling
B) CPL filter has Max, Min. efficiency by angle so need to check by rotating the CPL filter to mark Max. Middle and Min.
C) CPL filter is good for using in sunny condition
D) UV filter is a) useless for digital camera the other comment b) good for cloudy condition
E) ND filter needs manual shutter control to obtain good result. Appropriate shutter speed (SS) is calculated 1/FPS x 2.
In case 4K 30FPS, best SS is 1/30 x 2 = 1/60
At this moment, X8 has no manual shutter speed setting for video, ND filter is less usable

To test if above understanding is correct, purchased JSR UV filter (ID 1535746 URUAV as JSR was out of stock at ordering) and JSR CPL filter (ID 1566851 Banggood).

1) Measured weight of CPL and UV filter which shows 0.76g CPL, 0.61g UV filter.
2) Checked gimbal stability with both filters – looks O.K. for both start up and after stabilizing.
3) Checked CPL best efficient point and minimum point by looking outside and marked the position at outer ring.
Max. point – marked as III with red color and mount of top of Gimbal camera
Min. point – marked as I with black color (which is 90degree rotating from III)
50% point – marked as I with red color (which is 45degree rotating from III)
4) Put X8 on the same place and took video in different condition
Video setting 4K 30FPS, White Balance Auto, Color Vivid, Style Sat 60, Cont 60
A) Cloudy condition – 100% covered by cloud (Mar 4)
a) Canon SX620SH Video
b) No filter video
c) CPL filter Max. efficient video
d) CPL filter 50% point video
e) CPL filter Min. efficient video
f) UV filter video
B) Sunny condition – 0% cloud (Mar 6)
Color setting was changed to General as vivid was too exaggerated in test at cloudy day (above A).
g) Canon SX620SH Video
h) No filter video
i) CPL filter Max. efficient video
j) CPL filter 50% point video
k) CPL filter Min. efficient video
l) UV filter video

To my poor eyes, in Cloudy condition, ND filter would be better – set as vivid which might give excessive color tone.
In Sunny condition, CPL Minimum would be better.

Will take video with CPL/UV filter in actual flight.
