GREECE: ANCIENT WINDMILLS on WINDSWEPT HILLS, ISLAND of KARPATHOS

SUBSCRIBE: https://www.youtube.com/c/VicStefanu - Let's visit the beautiful Greek island of Karpathos in the Aegean Sea and let's walk around a cluster of medieval windmills built just outside the ancient town of Olympos in the northern part of karpathos. These windmills were built on top of a hill overlooking the area facing towards the western direction, where the winds are stronger and most fierce throughout the year. Most of the windmills of Karpathos were built during the 10th or the 11th centuries but these ones here in the video, come from either the 14th or the 15th centuries.
Karpathos, also Carpathos, is the second largest of the Greek Dodecanese islands, in the southeastern Aegean Sea. Together with the neighboring smaller Saria Island it forms the municipality of Karpathos, which is part of the Karpathos regional unit.
Greece is a country in southeastern Europe with thousands of islands throughout the Aegean and Ionian seas. Influential in ancient times, it's often called the cradle of Western civilization. Athens, its capital, retains landmarks including the 5th-century B.C. Acropolis citadel with the Parthenon temple. Greece is also known for its beaches, from the black sands of Santorini to the party resorts of Mykonos.
