Hero Nick Gilio makes speech after rapist Anthony Sampieri was sentenced to life in prison | 7NEWS
Description
The man who filmed a young girl as he raped and assaulted her in a toilet cubical at a Kogarah dance studio has been told he will die in jail.
In an unprecedented sentence in New South Wales for a child rapist, Acting Judge Paul Conlon ruled 56-year-old Anthony Sampieri should never be allowed back out again in the community.
The judge went through the horrific details of what the young girl endured in the male toilets, at a Kogarah Dance studio in November 2018.
Sampieri demanded she carry out sexual acts on him, and when she refused he punched her in the face, forcing her to comply.
He also tied her up with a black cord and shoved toilet paper into her mouth to stop her from screaming.
Nick Gilio was with the girl's mother, who was looking for her when he came across the 7-year-old who was lying on the ground.
Mr Gilio tackled him to the ground and was subsequently stabbed while holding Sampieri down.
The detectives who investigated the case were also in court when the maximum sentence was handed down.
The judge noted Anthony Sampieri will suffer significant hardship than most inmates, while behind bars because he is suffering from liver cancer. Due to the nature of his offending, the judge acknowledged Sampieri be a target in jail.
