I am only helping to give a legal explanation of California gun laws. These laws are hard to understand and i just want to further explain what it takes to buy guns in California?

California gun laws get harder and harder to understand every year. I'm not an attorney or a lawyer, i'm just a guy with some spare time who makes videos to help stay safe and stay legal in California. safety is my main priority and i consider safety from the law a part of that. So many people have asked me how to buy a gun in California in 2020 that i felt it was important to make an update video.

Typically process tldr:
-No assault weapons and handguns must be approved by the state for sale

-Background check every time you buy a gun but can do multiple guns at once

-10 day waits always

-1 handgun from FFL per 30 days

-Clean criminal history

-Takes about an hour

-Proper Documentation May include: ID Card- Safety Requirement Docs - proofs of residency

-filling out a federal form 4473 and what’s on it

-filling out a DROS and what’s on it





Who can buy a gun:

-California Residents

-Resident aliens need a green card

-Military out of state need duty station orders

Criminal History:

-Felons/domestic violence/dug user/5150

-If you are concerned you can fill out a Personal Firearms Eligibility Check with the state



I’m going to reference several documents throughout this. Those documents will be described in the later part of this video. So feel free to jump to the time age section you are curious of and then skip to the documents you have questions about.



21+

Can buy:

-Handguns but only 1 per 30days

-Semi auto center fire rifles

-any rifle or shotgun

-Firearms Safety Certificate lets you buy all guns

-Hunting license instead can let you buy long guns


18-20:

-Can buy: shotguns, rimfire rifles, center fire rifles that aren’t semi auto.

-Can’t buy handguns/receivers/“other”

-Need hunting license.

-cops/military exempt from restrictions can buy any





Documents you need:

FSC for handguns or long guns

Hunting license for long guns only

Handgun second proof

Valid CA ID/DL



ID/DL information:



ID with correct information/address:

Handguns need fsc

Long guns can have hunting license

Handguns state require second proof like a utility bill or lease agreement.



ID with incorrect information/PO box:

Prove to state- bill/lease/deed

Prove to feds- Gov printed doc

Prove to both- vehicle reg/ccw/gov permit



ID with federal limits apply:

Passport or Birth Certificate (other options to long to type)



What is an FSC:

-30 question multiple choice test

-covers safety/laws

-can miss 7 and pass

-$25 valid 5 years

-allows you to start background checks



How to get a hunting License:

-Online test / In class refresher

-Safety card then print valid license

-Allows 18-20 year olds to buy some guns and 21+ to buy long guns
