How to make a 3D Solar System model for Kids | Time 4 Kids TV

1 This is the set from our music video Free Play.
2 Here are the step by step instructions on how we made our solar system model.
3 You will need the following materials and equipment to make it.
4 There are different size balls, lengths of wires and coloured paints.
5 The first step requires an adult to cut the largest ball in half with a Stanley knife on a cutting board.
6 Paint the base coat of one hemisphere in yellow. This is the Sun, the centre of our solar system.
7 Let it dry and then add texture by dabbing some parts in orange.
8 Mix black and white paint together to make grey. Then paint all of the lengths of green florist wire and let them dry.
9 Insert them halfway into their corresponding ball.
10 Now holding the wire, paint each ball. For planet Earth paint the base coat in blue for the oceans and then dab on top of it green for land. Copy the colours seen in our video or research the planets yourself. Some colours may vary slightly according to the source of information.
11 When the planets are all painted and dried insert their wires into the sun as shown in the photo here. Space them out approximately 25 or 30 mm apart and in a straight line.
12 Make sure you put them in the correct order. Even though some scientists in recent years have classified Pluto as a dwarf planet, we’ve included Pluto because the debate still continues. Choose to leave it out, if need be.
13 A very popular mnemonic to remember the order of the planets is:
My Very Excellent Mother Just Served Us Nine Pizzas.
14 Now the solar system model is ready to place on a side table in front of the black and silver glitter cardboard as seen in our video.
If this project is for school, make a diorama by painting in black the inside of a 3-sided box.
Then put the model inside it for easy transportation.
