How We Ruined BO4

Welcome to the eighth episode of my weekly series dubbed "The Mainframe". Inside this week's topic, we discuss the difficult realities of how Influencers, Streamers, Commenters, and Redditors impacted Black Ops 4 in order to explore the question "Does the community really know what it wants?".

I examine the online culture leading up to the release of Black Ops 4 in order to allow viewers to understand the environment before and during launch. Then I dive into Treyarch's perspective struggles in the development of Black Ops 4. Afterward, we examine how influencers and fandoms were impacted. A terrible loop was created between influencers and the fandom due to Treyarch going quite during Black Ops 4's blue screen issues.

Looking really hard at the question "does the community know what it wants?" the overall answer is no. Aside from groups who want a game to be tailored to their exact desires, the zombie's community does not have a catch-all to please most fans. That hard truth shell shocked everyone involved. Everyone, including myself, responded in their own way. Most of which was lashing out and acting with the maturity of a child.

I have no doubt that there is a group of people that would love to tell Treyarch exactly how to make their game, but it wouldn't appeal to the majority of the community. Players what to experience the things they didn't know they wanted. In all respects, Black Ops 4 missed the mark as a game and as a community.
