Human rights activists and senators speak on Rohingya genocide case
Description
Fareed Khan from the Rohingya Human Rights Network holds a news conference on Parliament Hill to mark Human Rights Day. He is joined by Senators Mobina Jaffer and Salma Ataullahjan and John Packer from the University of Ottawa's Human Rights Research and Education Centre.
The speakers discuss the case at the International Court of Justice (IJC) at The Hague against Myanmar for its alleged violations of the UN genocide convention against the Rohingya people. Violence has forced more than 700,000 Rohingya Muslims to flee their country. The African nation of Gambia filed the genocide case in November 2019 on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation
