Description

I had the pleasure of meeting the Honorable Marco Mendicino, the Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship. We discussed five main immigration-related topics:

1. In reference to the Ukrainian International Airlines tragedy, what are the measures IRCC is providing for the families of the victims of Flight #PS752 in Iran?

2. With regards to the current political turmoil in Iraq, would the Canadian government help to grant refugee visas to some family members of activists and journalists that have been targeted by their regime?

3. Many lawyers and activists challenged the Safe Third Country Agreement between #Canada and the USA, claiming it is unlawful and against the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. They deemed the US is not “safe” under the new Trump administration.

4. The reopening of the Family Reunification Program was postponed earlier this year. When is it expected to reopen again?

5. Canada is planning to receive one million new immigrants within three years. What are the measures the Federal government is taking to make sure these immigrants are integrated into the job market? Many of those immigrants struggle especially the skilled workers.
