Investing in Quality Pool Service Cleaning Equipment
Description
I am a big believer in using the best equipment and products in my pool service business and in my personal life also. I tend to spend the extra money for the top of the line computers, phones and cameras and this also translates into the pool equipment I use.
The pool pole is the number one tool in your arsenal, and you carry it, hold it, use it at every pool all day long. Since it is the primary piece of equipment for you, I highly suggest using the best pole you can get. There are many choices for a premium professional pole, and I suggest one of these for the DIY homeowner as well. You can go with the tried and true Skimlite pole which has been around since 1954. Or the Smart company Power Pole which is one of the best 8-16 ft pool poles. Or you can go all out and get the Carbon Fiber Primate Pole which is the lightest and strongest pole in its class.
I would dump the cheap $18 pole which will give you nothing but frustration and spend $100 to $200 on one of these premium poles. It is the tool you are holding 90% of the time and worth investing money in. As an example, a Skimlite 9000 Series Dually pole is made to be used everyday on 15 plus pools and with this constant weekly use will last 2-3 years. It is made that well.
In the same respect, you want to use the best pool brush, leaf rake and manual vacuum head you can get. Pick up the SweepEase StingRay pool brush if you want a premium pool brush. I would say that the Purity Pool Red Baron and the Smart Company Piranha II leaf rakes are at the top now. Either of these would be a great choice for a leaf rake. For a vacuum head, the Pentair Pro Vac has been the top choice for many years and is just an all-around great vacuum head. Add a Smooth Bor pool hose and you have the top cleaning equipment money can buy.
When you are talking about premium equipment, you can’t go far in the discussion without mentioning Pool Vacuum Systems. Power Vac, Riptide, Hammer-Head and the Bottom Feeder all fall into this category. I can’t stress enough how a Pool Vacuum System can really turn things around for you out in the field. If you are a homeowner with a pool that gets a serious amount of debris and find that no automatic cleaner can handle it week to week, a vacuum system is a must for you also.
Look at it like this. A traditional manual vacuum is like one of those manual push vacuums that you see at community centers and small churches. A Vacuum System is like a Dyson V11 Torque Drive cordless vacuum. Try vacuuming the community center with the old fashion manual push vacuum compared to the Dyson. This is exactly like comparing a manual vacuum connected to the pool’s filtration system to the Vacuum System. A Vacuum System like the Riptide uses a 35 lbs. thrust motor – the same type of motor you would find on a small boat! So imagine the cleaning power of pushing one of these along the bottom of a pool and you can see how a pool full of leaves can be knocked out in 10 minutes where it would take you 45 minutes with a combination of your leaf rake and a manual vacuum.
There really should be no reason to hold off on a vacuum system in my opinion and it should be one of the first big purchases you make for your pool company. The upfront cost will be offset by the time you save on your route and the number of pools you can now do in a day. Plus it will save wear and tear on your body as you are not scooping out tons of leaves with your leaf rake. It is probably the best thing you can invest in, period.
