In huge cruise news, the first cruise from the U.S. set sail yesterday. UnCruise Adventures Wilderness Adventurer embarked on a seven-night Alaska cruise from Juneau. The 60- passenger ship cruised at 60% capacity traveling to popular locals, including Glacier Bay and Tracy Arm Fjord. There are still plenty of safety precautions in place, including enhanced sanitation, no self-service meals, and mask requirements in certain situations.
In other encouraging cruise updates, German brand TUI Cruises has also set sail. The three-night cruise on the mega-ship Mein Schiff 2 sailed with 1200 passengers. There were no stops, as the ship cruised the North Sea towards Norway. With daily temperature checks, social distancing, and mask-wearing requirements, this is great cruise news for those who love to sail on larger cruise ships.
Could Royal Caribbean be scrapping its smallest ship? Well, some observers pointed out that Empress of the Seas was sailing towards Malta. This is where two other RCI-owned ships recently stopped to unload heavy equipment before going to Turkey to be scrapped. To be clear, Royal Caribbean has denied that the ship is being scrapped. Yet, they have not commented on whether the ship is in talks of being sold.
Cruisers are eager to cruise again, but not everyone wants to go ASAP. These were the findings from a recent Cruzely survey of 1500 passengers. The website found that over 80% of previous cruisers will cruise again; although, 30% of those polled said they would only cruise when there is a vaccine or cure for COVID-19. Also, close to 30% indicated they would not sail if wearing a mask was a requirement. Would you cruise if you had a wear mask?
In other cruise news, Holland America Line announced several updates to its 3rd Pinnacle-class ship. Along with a delay to the ship’s release by two months, the cruise line is also changing the ship’s name. Now, the new vessel will be named Rotterdam. It will be the seventh ship to bear this name since the original ship set sail back in 1872!
There you have it, that is the latest cruise news and cruise updates for the week. Let us know in the comment sections below if we missed any major cruise headlines from the past week.
