The big news came amidst the Home Lockdown, BS4 registration deadline extended. In view of the Korean virus crisis, the country Supreme Court has decided to extend the registration deadline for BS4 vehicles. Car dealers were previously offering huge discounts to clear their BS4 stock, but the scheme is now closed due to lockdown. Upon removal of the coronavirus lockdown, dealerships will be allowed to sell unsold inventory of BS4 vehicles. However, the Supreme Court has also laid down certain conditions. The first condition is that the dealers will have to sell the inventory of BS4 vehicles within 10 days only after the lockdown is over. Will be registered in The second condition is that only 10 percent of the unsold inventory can be sold in that period and this time limit will not be applicable to Delhi / NCR region. Earlier in February 2020, the Supreme Court had heard the same case. The Federation of Automobile Dealers Association had then urged the country top judiciary body to extend the deadline by one month, as BS4 vehicles were not sold due to the slowdown in the automobile sector. However, the Supreme Court rejected the urge to pursue the deadline. However, the Supreme Court granted some relief when the same request was repeated on the basis of coronovirus lockdown. The Supreme Court decision to extend the deadline may provide temporary relief to car manufacturers and dealers, but many questions are also arising in this decision. First, why is it agreed to sell only 10 percent of the vehicles, while the dealers have more stock of inventory? And second, why is the deadline period not being implemented in Delhi NCR?
