The space
Contemporary Hill Country describes this unique house, tucked into the hillside with a spectacular view across to Fredericksburg, six miles away. No wonder Charlie Cain, an investor in the San Antonio-Fredericksburg railroad, gave this location its special name back in 1914. The property – 6 acres of Inspiration Hill – was in fact the inspiration for the house’s its extraordinary design and personality.
Stucco exterior and standing-seam metal roof hold the cool in summer and warmth in winter. Inside, a stunning mix of modern, international antique, color and texture mix comfortably. Rock terracing and private outdoor shower lure visitors outside. Inside, full-length glass doors and oversized windows bring in the dazzling views day and night. Simple and uncluttered, the furnishings create a harmonious effect. Luscious bed linens, colors to luxuriate in – both warm and cool – chosen to bring the Hill Country indoors. There are three distinctive king bedrooms and full baths, a single sofa bed in the upstairs den, and a large fold-out queen in the main living room.
First, a Tuscan-inspired master suite (king bed) with antique Mexican mesquite doors open onto the screen porch with fireplace. A leather chaise is great to lounge with a book or after a bath. Adjoining master bath has a river rock shower and Jacuzzi-spa. Back door and porch lead to an outdoor shower for a moonlight experience – or a cooling relief from a hot summer day. Second, a corner bedroom (king bed) with luxurious linens and calming earth tones make this a hideaway for relaxation. This room’s bath is an attractive orange and features a wonderful shower and red granite counter top. Third, an upstairs bedroom (king bed) features an inviting mint green color palette. This bedroom has windows on opposite sides and you can open them for a cross-breeze and moonlit sleep. Its bath has tile, rosewood granite, and a glass-enclosed oversized shower. Also on this floor is a single sleeper sofa.
All bedrooms have TVs with Netflix, Roku & YouTube. The house has high-speed wireless internet connections. Sit on the screened porch with your computer and talk to the office – or not!
The kitchen is fully-equipped for those with Cordon Bleu aspirations, granite-topped island for watching the chef while having a glass of wine, and the dining room seats 10 with an 8-foot table and 10-foot sideboard. The living room with its extraordinary views of the valley opens onto a screened porch with a gas-log fireplace, and is a favorite spot to sip a cocktail and watch the sun slip away.
The famous town of Luckenbach, with its dancehall and post office is just 4 miles down the road.
