Self-care is one of the most powerful ways you can help your child with anxiety or OCD. Seriously! I have spent two decades treating kids in my practice and the kids that make HUGE strides are the one’s whose parents know how to take care of themselves.

I am not only a child therapist, I am a mom to three kids with anxiety and OCD. Raising a child with these issues is exhausting, overwhelming and lonely. It can leave you feeling in over your head, drained and running on fumes.

Often when parents feel desperate and exhausted, they feel like they have to put more energy into helping their child. If they could just get their child “better” they would feel less exhausted and overwhelmed. Their family, relationships and life would be less chaotic.

But putting more energy into what is already draining you doesn’t make sense. When you focus on your emotional and physical well-being, you directly help your child. A child’s ability to make progress with anxiety or OCD is directly impacted by your well-being. I have seen this time and time again in my therapy practice.

Parents who tell themselves that self-care is selfish are completely missing the boat. The quickest way to make progress with your child, is to help yourself. It is not a “waste of time”or a luxury to work on your mindset, perceptions and health, it is a necessity if you want to help your child.

In this 3-part video series I am going to show you how to do just that! I will walk you through simple ways to change your mindset, reduce your stress and be an anchor for your child. You will learn a new way of looking at your situation and yourself.

Today I delivered the first of three videos into people’s in-box.

I also invite them to join my private Facebook group here (www.facebook.com/groups/atparentinganxiouskids), where I am doing a Facebook live each day at 9:30a PST/12:30p EST to answer your questions and explore the topic further. There will be a raffle, so watch the first video and head on over to the FB group for the class. See you there!
