Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot briefs Rajya Sabha on SC order on reservation in promotions

Members of Rajya Sabha express their opinion and seek clarification on the recent Supreme Court order on reservation in promotions.
In the Rajya Sabha on February 10, 2020 Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thaawarchand Gehlot informed the House of the government's opinion on the Supreme Court order that reservations for promotions in government jobs is not a fundamental right. The minister said that the government was not a party in the Supreme Court which ordered that states are not bound to provide reservation in appointments. He also said the Centre was also not asked to file an affidavit on the issue.
