Net Zero House Research at Purdue University
Description
The ReNEWW House, which stands for retrofitted, net-zero energy, water and waste, is a late 1920s bungalow in West Lafayette that Purdue University and Whirlpool Corp. remodeled and retrofit to offset all its energy use with solar power, to only rely on locally available water sources, and to have waste handling systems in place that prevent any household waste from going to the landfill.
The house also functions as a "living lab" housing graduate students who help monitor more than 70+ data points in and around the house that measure the home's performance, along with other research project about household environments.
The DC Micro-Grid House is also in development and when conversion is complete, it will run totally on DC power.
