New Ford EXPLORER Hybrid ST Line 2020 Review Interior Exterior.

America’s all-time best-selling SUV is redesigned for the 2020 model year with lighter, leaner, stronger construction and the broadest Ford Explorer lineup ever.

The well-appointed Explorer Platinum tops the lineup, now loaded with even more technology and creature comforts for both driver and passengers, including an available 10.1-inch portrait-mounted touch screen with full-screen maps, traffic-sensing Ford Co-Pilot360™ driver-assist innovations, and features that can help reduce stress such as available Reverse Brake Assist and Active Park Assist 2.0.

The latest SUV from Ford Performance, the all-new Explorer ST debuts for 2020 as the most powerful, most fun-to-drive Explorer to date. Its specially tuned 3.0-liter EcoBoost® engine is projected to produce 400 horsepower and 415 lb.-ft. of torque, enabling Explorer ST to reach a targeted top track speed of 143 mph.

Also debuting is an all-new no-compromise hybrid SUV designed to offer both performance and capability in one fuel-efficient package. The 2020 Explorer Hybrid’s 3.3-liter hybrid engine produces 318 system horsepower combined. The hybrid version is projected to return an EPA-estimated range of more than 500 miles between fill-ups in rear-wheel-drive configuration.

With its quick-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission, available Intelligent Four-Wheel Drive plus a Terrain Management System featuring seven selectable drive modes, the new Explorer is built to tackle virtually any adventure. Vehicles equipped with the 3.0-liter EcoBoost can tow up to 5,600 pounds, while those outfitted with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost can tow up to 5,300 pounds when properly equipped.

Other advanced technology offerings include an available wireless charging pad, FordPass Connect™ Wi-Fi service for up to 10 devices, and the latest SYNC® 3 system with Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto® and Waze navigation compatibility.

Ford Explorer, the vehicle that opened new roads for family adventures nearly three decades ago, returns with an all-new road map – and an all-new level of comfort and capability to navigate it. America’s best-selling SUV returns to its roots with new rear-wheel-drive architecture, a new all-EcoBoost® gas engine lineup, a new 10-speed automatic transmission, an available Terrain Management SystemTM with seven drive modes, and a spacious and comfortable cabin.

With available Intelligent Four-Wheel Drive and seven selectable drive modes at the driver’s fingertips, the all-new Explorer is designed for whatever life throws your adventure’s way. The drive mode system, controlled by a rotary dial on the center console, lets drivers shift easily between Normal, Slippery, Trail, Deep Snow/Sand, Sport, Tow/Haul and Eco modes.

The all-new 2020 Explorer was designed with improved passenger comfort in mind. Sliding second-row seats make it easy to customize the cabin to your crew.

Best-in-class first- and second-row hip room
Best-in-class second-row headroom
Unsurpassed third-row headroom
If cargo is what you’re hauling, the all-new Explorer answers the bell. PowerFold® third-row seats make it easy to create a flat-floor cargo area larger than Jeep Grand Cherokee, GMC Acadia, Mazda CX-9, Dodge Durango, Nissan Pathfinder, Toyota Highlander or Subaru Ascent.

Explorer’s all-new rear-wheel-drive architecture contributes to it being a more-than-capable towing machine, regardless of engine. Vehicles equipped with a 3.0-liter V6 EcoBoost and the towing package can haul up to 5,600 pounds, while those outfitted with a 2.3-liter EcoBoost and a towing package can tow up to 5,300 pounds. When properly equipped, Explorer hybrid is rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds.

An available 10.1-inch touchscreen mounted on the center stack brings new clarity to map details. Drivers can also opt to parse the screen into separate sections, displaying music or incoming call information on one half and the navigation mapping on the other. It’s Ford’s largest-ever screen to complement SYNC® 3 compatibility with popular services like Apple CarPlayTM, Android AutoTM and Waze navigation.

Parking hassles become a thing of the past with Ford’s new Active Park Assist 2.0. While the driver needs only press and hold a button on the dashboard, Explorer takes control of the steering wheel, gas pedal, brake pedal and gear shifter to fit the vehicle neatly into a parallel or perpendicular parking space.

Standard across every Explorer model is Ford Co-Pilot360TM, a suite of driver-assist technologies designed to make every trip a confident, stress-free adventure. Post-collision braking is also standard on all models, and advanced features such as Reverse Brake Assist and Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Speed Sign Recognition are available.
