The Lallantop Fact Check: Amid coronavirus outbreak in India, a video of some Muslim youths cleaning utensils with their tongues is going viral on social media. Nizamuddin area of Delhi is in the news since people involved in an event of Tablighi Jamaat were found infected with corona. It is being claimed that the viral video is from the Nizamuddin area and the young men seen in it are cleaning the utensils with saliva to spread the coronavirus.
In the investigation of 'The Lallantop', this claim turned out to be absolutely false. The Lallantop’s Padtaal team found a lot of reports on Google searching with the keywords 'Muslims licking spoons and plates'. The video that is going viral at this time of COVID-19 pandemic was uploaded on July 31, 2018. The video's description reads, "These people belong to the Dawoodi Bohra community. On the orders of his religious teacher Syedna, there is a tradition of not disrespecting their food here."
