Description

It’s been several years since I’ve reviewed this case by itself. And it’s been several years since it’s been ~really updated. In fact I don’t think it’s ~really changed since it’s been released…except for one thing. Can you see it?

BUT it’s still a great case. Great handling because of the thin edges, great drop protection and the mute switch toggle is still top notch. Which is why, out of the 200 cases I’ve ranked for the iPhone 11, it’s in the Top 5.

At MREH, Monty and I base our reviews on actual usage. Our videos won’t be as fancy as others and the reality is that fancier looking videos get more views but Monty and I aren’t in the business of trying to bedazzle you with BS, we’re in the business of making sure you get the best bang for your buck.

When it comes to design, the Impact Protection is thin but wide. It’s as wide as the case we reviewed recently, the Ringke Fusion X BUT the Fusion X has a slimmer mid-section.

The case fits the iPhone quite well, even better with the newer iterations as I never noticed the older case having a bulge at the top. The blended TPU of the case prevents the case from sliding around easily and still feels great. The texture isn’t overly aggressive but it’s there when you need it.

My only gripe with this product is the fingerprinting on the back. Now I will admit that I’m a bit more sensitive to the fingerprinting as the the previous two cases I reviewed hid my face grease quite well.

The last thing I”ll mention is that the edge of the case will take on color. My friend’s red Catalyst Case is looks more like Carnage than the Flash.

The functionality of the iPhone in the Catalyst Impact is where it shines. Tough cases are usually terrible to use with an iPhone. For example, one of the cases that I’ll be reviewing next week, the Griffin Survivor Extreme has terrible buttons.

The buttons on the case are smaller than average but the work exceptionally well. Unlike 99 percent of the case manufacturers out there that keep that area of the iPhone is thin as possible to maintain the tactile response of the buttons, Catalyst uses a floating button so it keeps the feel of the buttons.

The standout feature of this case is actually the rotary switch. It is stellar. So easy to use. If you mute and unmute your device all the time, this case is the one for you. Everytime I use this case, I get flashbacks of trying to use the mute switch on the LifeProof Next and think about certain companies can get it right other other’s get it so wrong…

When it comes to protection, this case is rated to about 10 ft. When Catalyst released this case for the iPhone X, that was a massive height since everybody was around 6ft.

Now every company can insert a different colored piece of TPE into their cases and make the same claim.

Now between this review and last review, the biggest difference is the addition of the colored ring around the camera cutout. The primary reason for this addition is to reduce the amount of dust and debris that gets between the case and the back of the iPhone.
