Description
A video with audio description available at: https://youtu.be/ZtJzE-cVBvQ
Özgül Calicioglu was 15 years old when she started to lose part of her vision. Today, she is an environmental engineer in the World Bank’s Young Professionals Program (YPP). In this video, she shares how she overcame her vision disability, and went on to join the World Bank’s flagship recruitment program.
More than one billion people worldwide – including an estimated 800 million in developing countries – experience some form of disability, according to the World Report on Disability by the World Bank (WB) and World Health Organization.
In 2018, The World Bank Group launched the 10 Commitments on Disability-Inclusive Development. These commitments aim to develop human capital around the world, the aim to help developing countries invest more – and more effectively – in persons with disabilities and in accessible services.
The commitments build on the WBG’s ongoing efforts to respond to the urgent need for accelerated action at scale to achieve disability-inclusive development in support of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Read the commitments here:
